Tata Zest Review

Tata Motors has officially launched its much awaited compact sedan, Tata Zest. This vehicle is offered in several trim levels like XM, XT, XMS and XE for the buyers to opt from. It comes with petrol and diesel engine options both of them are mated with a five speed manual transmission gearbox. The car maker has launched this latest sedan with several new exciting aspects, one among it is its new 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine. The car maker has launched this vehicle with several features like projector headlamps, signature LED tail lamps and LED daytime running lights.


This sedan is available with diesel and petrol engine options. Its diesel version is powered by a 1.3-litre Quadrajet engine and it comes in two states of tune wherein its 90PS version delivers a peak mileage of 23 Kmpl and 75PS version produces a maximum mileage ranges between 20 to 22 Kmpl. Its petrol version produces a mileage of 15 Kmpl in city traffic and on highways it is about 18 Kmpl.


This compact sedan has an elegantly designed cabin with a great headroom, leg and shoulder space. It is equipped with automatic AC unit with touch controls, ergonomically positioned control switches and a large glove box unit. The dashboard is equipped with a new generation Tata’s signature steering wheel with the multi-functional switches. 


Its exteriors offers a remarkable look, especially to its front profiles. The design of radiator grille is quite different from the rest of the Tata models and it is furnished with a thick chrome plated strip with the company insignia. The top end XT trim is also provided with well designed LED daytime running lights that offer a great look to the front facade.

Engine Performance

A new 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine is offered for this compact sedan. It displaces 1193cc with 4 cylinders and 16 valves that receives fuel through multi point injection system. It is further incorporated with an intercooled turbo charged unit that aids it to develop a peak power of 88.73hp at 5000rpm and that results in a maximum torque output of about 140Nm at 1750 to 3500rpm. 


This sedan is offered with an efficient braking and robust suspension system. Its front wheels are mated with a pair of disc brakes and rear wheels have drum brakes. Apart from base variant, all the remaining trims have been offered with an advanced 9th generation Anti-lock Braking System in combination with an EBD. 


The car maker offers this newly introduced compact sedan with important safety aspects. Its entry level variant has an engine immobilizer that helps to protect the sedan from theft. While the XM and XMA trim have features like speed dependent auto door lock, fog lamps and an advanced 9th generation Antilock Braking System with EBD.

Pros & Cons


The range of price is very competitive. Exterior look is outstanding. Interior design is very attractive.


Fuel economy of petrol engine is not up to the mark. Cabin storage capacities are limited.
